He began his career in Chinese state structures, spending 14 years at the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China (MOFCOM), including service as a diplomat stationed in Europe, before moving into the private sector.
From January 2010 to April 2013 he was an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs in Beijing, a member of the Supervisory Board of Goldman’s Beijing Office, where he led multiple outbound and inbound asset and share acquisitions on behalf of Chinese state-owned enterprises and listed companies.
Since May 2013 Dr. Zhang has been the Founder and CEO of SIFT Capital (Sift Capital Partners Ltd.), an asset manager licensed by the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong (HKSFC No. BBE413) and the Asset Management Association of China (AMAC No. P1018039).

Public records and corporate disclosures show that Zhe Zhang and Konstantin Sokolov have intersected in at least four major business ventures:
- Viva Armenia (formerly MTS Armenia): Both are named as the ultimate beneficiaries of Fedilco Group Limited, the Cyprus-based company that acquired Armenia’s leading telecommunications operator from the Russian MTS Group. While no public document shows Dr. Zhang personally declaring a majority stake in Viva Armenia itself, his ultimate involvement in the asset, alongside Sokolov, is a matter of public record. This points to a strategic synergy: Dr. Zhang essentially stepped forward to offer friendly backing to U.S. citizen Konstantin Sokolov, acting as the visible majority-side beneficial owner at a critical juncture when the buyer of Viva Armenia was legally required to disclose its ultimate beneficial ownership.
- Alpha Star Acquisition Corporation (SPAC): Sokolov served as a director; Zhe Zhang is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman.
- Golden Star Acquisition Corporation (SPAC): Both served simultaneously as Independent Directors. Both were also shareholders of the sponsor, G-Star Management Corporation. The SPAC completed its business combination with Gamehaus Inc. in January 2025 (now trading as GMHS).
- AMIO Bank (Armbusinessbank ): Acquired via an investment fund managed by Zhe Zhang’s companies. Konstantin Sokolov is not recorded as a direct beneficiary in official filings, but appears in connection with the bank through appointed representatives and earlier affiliated projects.
